'Kleins' blue up-cycled drawers

I had this solid timber side board custom made 20years ago to fit into the very narrow terrace I rented in Erskineville. I’ve always loved it’s size and drawers that are perfectly suited to hold cds, dvds and other relics from another time.

It was starting to look a bit battered, and the yellow timber just didn’t work in our new space so, rather than buy a new piece, I decided to give this old girl a makeover.

Inspired by Yves Kleins 1962 artwork, Portrait relief PR3 (portrait of Claude Pascal) that I spent many school holidays mesmerised by as a kid visiting @agnsw I ordered a pot of cobalt blue chalk paint and joyfully set about transforming these dated drawers.

With so many drawer pulls I decided to reuse the existing metal pulls which are really good quality, I just left off the brass cymbals that felt a bit old school for this bright and modern face lift.

The end result…

I LOVE it!
